THe Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has reportedly been asked to examine the tariff plans of mobile companies to check whether they are making undue gains from call drops.
According to media reports, telecom operators have been told not to divert spectrum capacity towards profit-intensive data services at the cost of voice calls.
They have also been told to review the quality of the services they are offering, and ensure that it is of a respectable standard.
The government has taken a stern view of the growing problem of call drops, as this has been increasing over the past few months despite repeated warnings and consumer complaints.
Industry analysts say that telecom firms may not take kindly to this move and could go to the courts for redressal.
