Having survived 80-hours below the rubble of a seven-storey guest house and losing one of his legs in the process, 27-year-old Rishi Khanal is now hoping to resume work.

Khanal, who was staying at the Sayaptri Guest House with two of his friends, was planning to take an April 27 flight to Dubai in search of a lucrative job abroad to support his family in Nepal's Arghakhanchi District, but fate willed otherwise.

Now recuperating at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Khanal, who lost his left leg, is optimistic about finding employment after his discharge, though he remains uncertain about his future.

He is also hopeful about disaster relief organizations coming forward to help him and his family.

More than 8,600 people have been killed in the two earthquakes that struck Nepal on April 25 and May 12 respectively.

The government in Nepal has estimated that at least two billion dollars will be required to rebuild homes, hospitals, government offices and historic buildings.
