Taking strong exception to the defence agreement signed between India and the United States, the Congress Party on Wednesday said Washington has never supported India but lend its support to Pakistan on the PoK issue.

"In the Security Council, it has never supported India. It has always supported Pakistan on the PoK issue and if the Prime Minister signs a defence agreement with the United States then I will start raising questions about his patriotism. I am saying this with all seriousness," Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit told ANI.

Dikshit said New Delhi must realise that this is the same America which had sent their seventh feat against India during the Bangladesh-Pakistan war.

In a joint statement, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and U.S. Defence Secretary Ashton Carter noted that Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA) will facilitate additional opportunities for practical engagement and exchange.

However, it does not make logistical support automatic or obligatory for either party and each case will require individual clearance.

Further, the services or supplies accessed will be on a reimbursable basis as per the new pact.

The logistics agreement between the two countries was first proposed in 2003 but India did not agree to its signing until earlier this year.
