An amount of Rs. 259 Crore disbursed to Cultural Organizations for propagation and dissemination of Performing Arts during 2014-17

The Ministry of Culture administers a Scheme namely 'Scheme of Financial Assistance for Promotion of Art and Culture' under which financial assistance is given to cultural organizations for propagation and dissemination of Performing Arts. The Scheme which has five (05) components ie. (i) Repertory Grant (ii) Financial Assistance to Cultural organizations with National Presence(iii) Cultural Function and Production Grant (iv) Financial Assistance for Preservation and Development of Cultural Heritage of Himalayas and (v) Financial Assistance for the Development of Buddhist/Tibetan Arts and Culture is mandated to provide grant-in-aid to cultural organizations for organizing seminars, conference, festivals, research workshops, exhibitions, imparting training to Artists by their respective Guru and to organizations engaged in development and preservations of cultural heritage of the Himalayas and development of Buddhist/Tibetan Culture and Art.

The total number of organizations provided grant-in-aid for the above said purpose under the above said Scheme during the last three financial years and current financial year is given below:

2014-15: 1925

2015-16: 3148

2016-17: 2838

The organizations which receive grant-in-aid undertake various cultural activities such as organizing seminars, exhibitions, festivals, production on any subject important to the preservation or promotion of Cultural heritage of India. In addition to this, the organizations receiving grant-in-aid are involved in imparting training to Artists by their respective Gurus, and preserving and developing cultural heritage of the Himalayas and development of Buddhist/Tibetan Culture and Art.

The amount of funds (Rs Lakh) made available to such cultural organizations during the last three years and current financial years is given below:

2014-15: 6301.45

2015-16: 9044.68

2016-17: 10599.86
