India's fuel product consumption dips 6.1% in August 2017

Cumulative fuel product consumption remains flat in April-August 2017

India's fuel product consumption or sales dipped 6.1% to 15.75 million tonnes (mt) in August 2017 over a year ago, while recording decline for third straight month. Petcoke consumption plunged 29.3% to 1.94 mt, diesel 3.7% to 5.91 mt, kerosene 41.2% to 0.29 mt and naphtha 7.6% to 1.06 mt. The consumption of fuel oil also declined 6.8% to 0.54 mt, petrol 0.8% to 2.19 mt and light diesel oil (LDO) 9.8% to 0.04 mt. However, the consumption of LPG moved up 11.8% to 2.06 mt, ATF 10.6% to 0.61 mt and others 8.1% to 0.62 mt, while that of bitumen also gained 8.5% to 0.23 mt, and lubes/greases 6.7% to 0.26 mt in August 2017.

Consumption or sales of fuel products was flat at 82.03 mt in April-August 2017 over April-August 2016. Sales of diesel increased 4.5%, LPG 11.5%, petrol 8.3%, and ATF 9.7%. Consumption of other products also moved up 6.5%. However, the consumption of petcoke declined 12.4%, naphtha 16.6%, kerosene 36.0%, fuel oil 7.6%, bitumen 5.4%, lubes/greases 8.1% and LDO 1.2% in April-August 2017.
