A 43-year-old Australian was found dead under mysterious circumstances in his house here, police said Friday.
Brandan Christopher Field was staying along with his Indian wife Antoinette and two children in Nongrah suburb of the state capital.
"We were informed by his wife that Field had committed suicide Thursday by hanging himself inside the bedroom," police inspector D.R.Marak told IANS.
Marak said the police team found the body lying on the floor with a "strangluation mark" on his neck.
"We cannot ascertain now the cause of his death and moreover, we did not recover any sucide note from the house," he said, adding that police are awaiting the post-mortem examination report to confirm the exact cause of death.
Police have, meanwhile, recorded the statement of Antoinette on the entire incident leading to her husband's alleged sucide.
A case has been registered.
