A court here has convicted auto driver Vikas Prashad Verma of raping a school girl in 2009 and sentenced him to a seven-year jail term.
Additional Sessions Judge Sarita Birbal last week pronounced the verdict against Verma (35), who used to drive a 'Vikram tempo' in east Delhi when the crime was committed. The judge also fined the convict Rs 6,000.
According to the prosecution case, the victim had taken Verma's 'Vikram tempo' to go to school on April 1, 2009.
Verma, instead, took the girl to an isolated place and raped her.
He had been on the run after the incident before being arrested on April 15, 2013 in Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan.
The charge was framed against him on July 19, 2013. He pleaded not guilty and claimed trial.
The court relied upon the testimony of the victim.
