The Border Security Force (BSF) seized 60 gold biscuits worth close to Rs 2 crore from a smuggler at Hakimpur in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district on Thursday.
Acting on a tip, BSF personnel laid an ambush near Sonai river and saw a person trying to cross it from Bangladesh around 1 p.m.
According to a BSF statement, the suspect was clutching a rope, one end of which was tied on the Indian side.
On being confronted, the miscreant escaped but left behind a white plastic bag which contained 60 gold biscuits weighing about seven kg.
The BSF's South Bengal Frontier unit has seized 27 kg of gold valued at over Rs 8 crore and caught nine smugglers this year.
