Clashes erupted on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad highway on Tuesday as students from a local engineering college marched towards the home of a youth killed during security operations on November 7.
Nearly 30 vehicles carrying students from the SSM College of Engineering were stopped by the security forces at Mirgund on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad highway, while they were on their way to the home of the deceased youth, Gowhar Ahmad Dar, in Zainakote area of Srinagar.
Dar was also a student of SSM College.
Police used batons and tear smoke shells to force the students to withdraw from the highway.
Students in turn hurled stones.
Meanwhile, on Monday, Gowhar's grandmother died of shock upnn hearing the news of his death,
The state government has ordered a magisterial probe into the youth's death.
Gowhar died when a tear smoke shell hit him on his head during violent clashes between the security forces and protestors in Zainakote area on November 7.
