Apprehending "disturbance" by Trinamool Congress "anti-socials", Congress leader Abdul Mannan on Tuesday moved the Election Commission, urging it to monitor and seal all ferry ghats along the Ganga river on the fifth day of the West Bengal assembly polls on April 30.
"As on April 25, election in North 24 Parganas and Howrah is over, so the Trinamool anti-socials are being migrated to Champdani constituency (in Hooghly district) to create disturbance and booth-capturing on poll day on April 30," Mannan, a candidate from the constituency, said in a statement to Chief Electoral Officer Sunil Gupta.
Fifty-three constituencies spread across the districts of South 24 Parganas, Kolkata and Hooghly will go to the polls in the fifth phase on Saturday.
Mannan requested the poll panel to check the ferry ghats on the day prior to the polls and also urged central forces to ensure that only those with proper voter identity cards are allowed to enter.
