Dengue death: Centre orders probe, Delhi notice to five hospitals

The central government on Saturday ordered a probe while the Delhi government issued notice to five private hospitals in the national capital after a seven-year-old boy died of dengue as he was allegedly denied admission and his shocked parents committed suicide.

The Delhi government asked the city's five hospitals why their registration should not be cancelled for allegedly denying admission to the boy.

"I have ordered an inquiry into the incident reported in the media involving death of a child in Delhi due to dengue and suicide by his parents. Guilty won't be spared," union Health Minister J.P. Nadda said.

"I have sought a report from the Delhi government. I have told them to submit the report without delay. It is a very sad incident," he added.

A Delhi government official said: "Moolchand Khairati Ram Hospital, Aakash Hospital, Saket City Hospital, Max Hospital (Saket) and Irene Hospital (Kalkaji) have been asked to reply in a month as to why their registration should not be cancelled for their refusing emergency medical care to the deceased child."

Health Minister Satyendra Jain said strict action would be taken in the case.

Police said the couple -- identified as Lakshman Chandra Raut, 35, and Babita Raut, 30 -- jumped from their rented accommodation in Lado Sarai area of south Delhi on Wednesday around 12.15 a.m. They hailed from Odisha.

The couple's only son, Avinash, died of suspected dengue on September 8 after allegedly being denied admission by the private hospitals on the previous day.
