Suspended ED officer Manoj Kumar, accused of association with the wife of scam accused Rose Valley Chit Fund owner Gautam Kundu, has sought more time to appear for questioning in two cases, Kolkata Police said on Thursday.

"Kumar was first summoned by the Shakespeare Sarani police station on March 10 and then by the Hare Street police station on March 14 to be present for questioning by March 17," Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Vishal Garg said.

"He has sent an email to Kolkata Police headquarters today (Thursday), requesting for extension of the deadline by citing personal problems. he said he will appear after March 20," he said.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) officer was suspended amid a controversy surrounding his alleged association with Rose Valley Chit Fund owner's wife Subhra Kundu while he was conducting a probe into a scam involving the company.

Once the allegations surfaced, Kumar was removed from the probe concerning Rose Valley.

He was summoned by Shakespear Sarani police on charge of aiding in extortion from a Kolkata businessman Kamal Somani, police said.

"He was summoned in a different case by the Hare Street police station after the officers recovered a laptop suspected to be owned by Kumar that had important information related to the Rose Valley scam investigation," the officer added.
