A major fire broke out in a branch of a nationalised bank here on Tuesday but no casualty was reported, a West Bengal minister said.
The fire broke out at around 9 am on the second floor of the Allahabad Bank. Ten fire tenders battled the flames and brought it under control, state Fire and Emergency Services Minister Sovan Chatterjee said.
The building is located in the city's business district of BBD Bag.
The bank has initiated an internal probe into the matter.
"We will have an internal audit to examine the cause. So far as outward clearing is concerned, we are making alternate arrangements. We have already put a notice requesting our customers of this branch that they can go to the nearest branch to operate without any problem as it is under core banking solution," said the bank's Chairman and Managing Director Rakesh Sethi.
