Germany Wednesday said it would provide over five million euros ($6 million) in additional funds to promote Ebola research.
"We urgently need reliable diagnostic and treatment methods," Xinhua quoted German Minister of Education and Research Johanna Wanka as saying in a statement.
In addition, BMBF - the ministry of education and research - is supporting Ebola research carried out by the German Center for Infection Research, which was founded by the ministry in 2010.
From 2014 to 2017, BMBF also plans to promote two research projects aiming to develop vaccine and therapy against the disease.
The German government Friday pledged another 84.7 million euros to battle Ebola, bringing the total amount of aid promised by Germany to over 100 million euros.
