Global cues buoy equities; Sensex up by 230 points

Positive global cues pushed the key Indian equity markets higher during the special "Muhurat" trade session on Wednesday.

The special hour-long session held every year on Diwali day saw the key equity index -- S&P BSE Sensex -- make gains during the initial phase of the trade.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) gained 231.87 points during the period.

The S&P BSE Sensex, which opened at 35,301.88 points, traded at 35,223.78 points (at 5.45 p.m.) -- up 231.87 points or 0.66 per cent from Tuesday's close at 34,991.91 points.
