Government, Congress match-fixing in Aircel-Maxis case: AIADMK, BJD

The AIADMK and the BJD on Wednesday accused the government and the main opposition party Congress of a "match fixing" on Aircel-Maxis issue and demanded a CBI probe into the matter.

The Congress, the Left and the Rahtriya Janata Dal (RJD) members staged a walkout over the issue.

"Why no FIR has been lodged? Why no charge sheet has been filed? Is the Congress and BJP bargaining with each other? Is the BJP and the Congress doing match-fixing in this case?" BJD leader Bhartruhari Mahtab asked in the Lok Sabha.

He was initiating the discussion under Rule 193 on alleged money laundering case involving Aircel-Maxis deal.

Questioning the delay, Mahtab also urged the government to investigate thoroughly the money laundering allegation against former finance minister P. Chidambaram's son Karti Chidambaram.

Earlier, when Mahtab stood to speak, the Congress members trooped near the Speaker's podium and opposed the Speaker's move to initiate the discussion over the issue.

Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said: "The matter is pending in court. As per the law, you can't discuss the matter here. The member (Mahtab) is also taking the name of a person who is not the member of this house."

Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu said the house has taken many sub judice matters in the past too. "The house has discussed the Gujrat and Ayodhya issue here."

Meanwhile, Kharge and Trinamool Congress leader Saugata Roy raised some point of order but the Speaker rejected these, saying: "No point of order. The discussion has started."

AIADMK members have been raising the issue since Tuesday and demanding action against Chidambaram's son over the recent income tax and enforcement directorate raids, which allegedly revealed that he had built a massive empire through investments across the world.

Soon after AIADMK member T.G. Venkatesh rose to speak over the issue, the Congress, the Left and the RJD members staged a walkout.

"Aircel-Maxis deal was materialised with the help of two former DMK union ministers during UPA rule," Venkatesh said.

He also demanded a thorough probe by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate to unearth this scam and prosecution of Chidambaram and his son.
