A couple from Jharkhand was arrested for running a human trafficking racket here, Delhi Police said Sunday.
Panna Lal Mahto, 31 and his wife Sunita Kumari, 37, who run a placement agency were arrested Saturday from their Shakurpur area home in north Delhi when they came to take some belongings after being on the run for the past few days.
Mahto and his wife are involved in trafficking children, especially minor girls from Jharkhand, for working illegally as domestic helps in Delhi and the National Capital Region through their placement agencies, police said.
Delhi Police also claimed that the accused couple had given shelter to ex-minister and sitting Jharkhand legislator Yogender Saw, who was arrested Oct 4 during a joint operation with the Jharkhand Police for alleged involvement in Maoist activities.
