The Jamia Millia Islamia university will introduce new post-graduate degree and diploma courses in gender studies, biophysics, public health and disaster management from the academic year 2015-16, an official statement said.

The post-graduate degree courses, which will be started from the new academic year, include M.A. in gender studies in the Sarojini Naidu Centre for Women's Studies and M.Sc. in biophysics in the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Basic Sciences.

Diploma courses include post-graduate diploma in public health in the Department of Social Work and diploma in disaster management in the Department of Geography.

In addition to these courses, new specialties have been introduced in Master in Physiotherapy programmes such as neurology and cardiopulmonary.

These two specialties are in addition to the existing ones in sports and orthopedics.

"The University is making significant strides to make itself a favoured academic destination for students in the country and abroad," the statement said.

The 95-year-old Jamia Millia Islamia was founded by freedom fighter and Muslim theologian Maulana Mehmud Hasan.

The foundation stone of the university was laid in Aligarh in 1920. It was later shifted to Delhi, with the support of Mahatma Gandhi in 1925.
