Kerala bakeries decide to remove Maggi from shelves

A day after the Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation (Supplyco) decided not to sell Maggi instant noodles at its outlets, it was the turn of bakeries in the state to do the same on Wednesday.

A representative of the bakeries in Kerala said they have decided to remove all packets of Maggi noodles from the shelves.

The decision was taken in the wake of reports that food safety inspectors in Uttar Pradesh have filed a criminal complaint against Nestle's local arm after finding higher than permissible level of lead in some packets of Maggi noodles.

But for the manufacturers, some relief came their way on Wednesday when the Kerala Food Safety authorities, after checking seven samples of Maggi collected from two districts in the state in its preliminary report, did not find anything untoward.

The final results were expected in a few days, an official said.

State-owned Supplyco has 1,424 outlets across Kerala.
