Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho was on Thursday charged with "misconduct" for his remarks against referee Anthony Taylor before his side's English Premier League match against Liverpool.
Mourinho, 53, said on the eve of the match on October 17 that Taylor, a native of Manchester, would find it "difficult to have a very good performance" by the "pressure" imposed on him, reports Efe.
"I think Mr Taylor is a very good referee but I think somebody with intention is putting such a pressure on him that I feel that it will be difficult for him to have a very good performance," said the Portuguese coach.
The English Football Association (FA) bars the coaches to speak about referees before matches. Mourinho was pulled up for violating the rule.
The duel between Liverpool and United ended 0-0 and Taylor was praised for his work by both Mourinho and Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp.
"Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has been charged with misconduct, in respect of comments he made relating to the appointed match referee prior to the Liverpool FC v Manchester United FC fixture on Monday 17 October 2016," said the FA in a statement on Thursday.
Mourinho has until October 31 to appeal the accusation of the FA.
