The retrial of former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak over responsibility for killing protesters was adjourned to July 6, the presiding judge of a Cairo court said during a session aired by state TV Monday.

The retrial includes Mubarak, his two sons Alaa and Gamal, former interior minister Habib al-Adli, six former top police officials and fugitive business tycoon Hussein Salem over charges related to the death of protesters, along with corruption, profiteering and illicit gains, reported Xinhua.

Cairo criminal court decided to adjourn the retrial to July 6 at the request of Mubarak's lawyer and the lawyers of the other defendants.

The court also decided to temporarily release Mubarak's two sons Alaa and Gamal over corruption charges as long as they were not wanted for other charges.

Mubarak and Adli were sentenced to life imprisonment in June 2012 over responsibility for killing protesters in the 2011 upheaval. They appealed the verdict, which was accepted by the court. The court has started the appeal sessions since May 11.

Mubarak ruled Egypt for nearly three decades and was toppled by nationwide protests in January 2011.
