India's navy chief Admiral Sunil Lanba will visit Myanmar from November 1 to 4 in an effort to further consolidate and enhance bilateral maritime relations, an official statement said on Monday.

During his visit, the navy chief will hold discussions with Myanmar's First Vice-President U Myint Swe, Vice Senior General Soe Win, Deputy Commander-in-Chief (Defence Forces) and Commander-in-Chief of Myanmar Army, and Admiral Tin Aung San, Commander-in-Chief of the Myanmar Navy.

The Admiral will address students at the National Defence College and visit Defence Services Academy, Naval Training Command and the indigenously built Myanmar Navy Frigate UMS Aung Zeya.

The visit coincides with the port call of Indian naval ships of the 1st Training Squadron, which are on overseas deployment as part of the training curriculum of the Indian naval cadets.

The Indian and Myanmarese navies cooperate with each other in terms of training and operational interactions.

India has been partnering in capacity building of the Myanmar Navy through assistance in military hardware and equipment.

Myanmar Navy ship UMS Aung Zeya, indigenously built by Myanmar but with sensors made by Bharat Electronics Limited, participated in the International Fleet Review-2016 in Visakhapatnam in February 2016.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Myanmar Navy also participated in the Fleet Review.

Admiral Lanba will lay a wreath at the Martyrs' Mausoleum and also host a reception for dignitaries from Myanmar onboard the Indian naval ships at Yangon.
