Now, Intach focuses on Rashtrapati Bhawan

From the ancient to the contemporary: the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (Intach) has now turned its focus on Rashtrapati Bhawan.

"It is not only about the monuments like Qutub Minar or Lal Quila but even buildings like Rashtrapati Bhawan which is a glorious and historical building are important. Even smaller buildings can be of heritage importance depending upon history associated with it," Ajay Kumar, Director Projects, Intach said at an event here on Tuesday.

"F"r the process we had to first do a scientific analysis of the building and find out what its original structure was. Then we planned the changes required to maintain and enhance the beauty of the building. Traditional methods and materials have been used while modern facilities have been added," "wapna Liddle, Convenor, Intach added.According to Intach, the conservation work, will have a major long term impact in the management of President'' estate and Rashtrapati Bhawan and will serve as a model for other conservation projects."There are lot of public buildings in India which are heritage buildings. Rashtrapati Bhawan is a living building and changes are necessary so that it is liveable and can be used as office. It is important to maintain the heritage character of the building," Liddle added.
