Congress' student wing, the NSUI-led alliance dominated the Panjab University Campus Students' Council (PUCSC) election Friday winning three out of four office bearers' post.

Divyanshu Budhiraja of the University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), from the National Students Union of India (NSUI), was declared elected as president after a close fight with his nearest rival Anil Sharma of the PU Students Union (PUSU). Budhiraja won by 77 votes.

The NSUI won the post of vice president and secretary also. Its candidates Snigdha Bawa and Ankur Sehrawat won both these posts.

The PUSU alliance won the post of joint secretary through its candidate Abhishek Thapar.

The PUSU came a close second in the counting of votes. The voting took place Friday.

The declaration of results was delayed as votes were re-counted.

PU campus has a total of 14,204 students.

The NSUI had, in a first, won the post of the PUCSC president last year also with its candidate Chandan Rana elected as president.

The PU student council had earlier been dominated by the PUSU and Students of PU (SOPU).

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), which won the posts of vice president and secretary last year, failed to open its account this time.
