The Delhi Police are close to arresting the man involved in the rape of a four-year-old girl here, a police source said on Monday.
Though police refused to give any detail, the source said the accused Rahul alias Lala was a resident of Rampura colony in Keshav Puram area here and known to the brutalised child and her family.
A vagabond, Rahul was detained on Sunday evening and would be arrested by late Monday night, the source added.
The child, admitted at Safdarjung Hospital, was found lying in a pool of blood by a passerby near a railway track in north Delhi's Keshav Puram area around 7 p.m. on Friday, hours after she went missing from her house. She is now stated to be out of danger.
One of the officers investigating the case told IANS that Rahul consumed liquor on Friday and took the child near the railway track on the pretext of giving her toffee. The girl was playing outside her house when she went missing.
"We are now collecting evidence to corroborate the case," the official said.
Police questioned scores of people during the probe after filing a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
