Scotland have sent their most experienced player and leading wicket-taker Majid Haq home from the World Cup after a breach of discipline.

There were no details of the incident in the release issued by Cricket Scotland but it is understood that the 32-year-old was unhappy at being dropped from the team that lost to Sri Lanka by 148 runs here on Wednesday.

The team issued a statement, which said: "Following a breach of Cricket Scotland's internal code of conduct, international team member Majid Haq is travelling home from the ICC World Cup. No further statement will be issued until this process has been completed in due course."

The BBC reported that Haq posted a tweet, subsequently deleted, saying: "Always tougher when you'r in the minority!! #colour #race".

Haq has only clinched three wickets at the quadrennial event at an impressive average of 4.88. Overall, he has played more than 200 times for Scotland, taking 258 wickets, including 60 in one-day internationals.
