Sharad Yadav begins second phase of campaign against Nitish

JD-U rebel leader and former party President Sharad Yadav on Monday slammed Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and said there is a condition like "Andher Nagri Chaupat Raja" (ruler in oblivion amid chaos) in the state.

"There is a condition like 'Andher Nagri Chaupat Raja' in Bihar. It was evident last week when a portion of a canal collapsed a day before it was to be inaugurated by Nitish Kumar. Rampant loot and corruption are everywhere," Sharad Yadav told media persons after landing at Patna airport from Delhi.

"Law and order has totally collapsed as reports of murder, rape and bank robbery have increased," he said.

Hundreds of his supporters, including some Janata Dal-United (JD-U) leaders, welcomed Yadav as he came out of the airport, shouting slogans in his support.

He then began his second phase of campaign to meet people and interact with them.

Last month, during the first phase of campaign, he visited eight districts in Bihar, including Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Supaul and Madhepura.

Sharad Yadav is now on a four-day visit to six districts in Bihar, including Patna, Bhojpur, Gaya, Aurangabad and Jehanabad.

He is scheduled to address 29 public meetings during his visit.

Yadav reiterated that he was still with the Grand Alliance of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress.

He blamed Nitish Kumar for breaking the Grand Alliance in Bihar in July this year and joining hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to form a new government in the state.

"The decision to join hands with the BJP and form a government in Bihar was against the mandate given by 1 crore people in the 2015 assembly polls against the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA)," he said.

"BJP-led NDA has cheated people in the last three-and-half years. The NDA government at the Centre has totally failed to do anything. Poor people have been hit hard, farmers have been protesting," he said

"Youths, particularly students, are angry, traders and businessmen are unhappy over the Goods and Services Tax (GST)," Yadav said.

He also criticised the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh over police action against protesting girl students of BHU in Varanasi and the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue.
