SpiceJet adds new flights for northeast India

Despite being a crucial tourist place north-east has been deprived of good air connectivity, said Shilpa Bhatia

Aiming to penetrate the underserved markets within its domestic network and enhancing regional connectivity, SpiceJet has introduced new flights with a key focus to get the northeastern states on its pan-India radar, a company statement said here on Monday.

"Starting October 4, adding new markets like Silchar, Gorakhpur and Aizawl, the airline will operate new flights on sectors like Kolkata-Silchar-Guwahati, Kolkata-Aizawl-Guwahati and Kolkata-Gorakhpur-Delhi. Kolkata-Visakhapatnam-Kolkata flights will be effective from November 1," the statement said.

The airline is offering tickets at an all inclusive introductory fare of Rs 2,127 for the Kolkaka-Aizawl and Rs 1,899 for the Aizawl-Guwahati sectors; Rs 3,699 for the Kolkata-Silchar and Rs 4,188 for Silchar-Guwahati sectors; Rs 3,210 for the Kolkata-Gorakhpur and Rs 3,335 for Gorakhpur-Delhi sectors.

The new schedule will also include additional frequencies with a direct flight on its existing routes of Kolkata-Bagdogra and Kolkata-Guwahati, the statement added.

"North-east, despite being a crucial tourist locale, has been deprived of good air connectivity. Hence, our new schedule lays special attention on this region, connecting the major hub-points of the seven sister states. And we look forward to further strengthening our presence in this market in the near future," said SpiceJet Senior Vice President (Commercial) Shilpa Bhatia.
