Stoke City have no plans to sell Trinidad striker

London, Jan 11 (IANS/CMC) The boss of English football club Stoke City says he does not intend to sell Trinidad and Tobago striker Kenwyne Jones.

Mark Hughes outlined the club's position in a British newspaper after Jones converted last weekend.

Jones, the Trinidad and Tobago captain, in only his 10th appearance of the season scored during the Potters' 2-1 win

over Leicester City in the FA Cup third round.

"That's not the intention," said Hughes when asked if the 29-year-old could leave the club in January.

"We've had problems scoring goals and so we've got to keep players who can get you a goal, and he showed he's an

option for us."

Jones saw action for the first time in five weeks when he scored the first goal in Saturday's 2-1 win over Leicester to tee up a fourth-round tie at Chelsea.

In an interview with the Sentinel newspaper in England Hughes was pretty adamant about Jones' immediate future.

"Kenwyne has had to be patient and I haven't been able to give him too many opportunities," he said.

"He lost his place to Peter (Crouch) and has had to bide his time, but when he plays like that he will always be a threat to teams."
