Strict security upgrade for all Thailand airports

Administrators and businesses operating at airports across Thailand will come under a new comprehensive security programme designed to bring procedures up to international standards.

Chula Sukmanop, chief of the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT), said the programme will try to follow guidelines set by the UN's International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), the Bangkok Post reported on Sunday.

The new programme involves mandatory procedures requiring administrators, air traffic service providers, airport personnel and others connected to aviation security to produce their own plans to be audited by the CAAT.

It also sets out rules and regulations for aviation safety at every step, including rigorous security protocols for everyone including flight crew, ground staff and shops in airports.

The plans must be presented in the coming year and will be audited by the ICAO's Universal Security Audit Programme in 2017.
