The toll in the sinking of a South Korean fishing vessel has risen to 11 as four more bodies were recovered in the waters near the site, authorities said Wednesday.

Earlier in the day six bodies were recovered in the waters near the site. One person was confirmed dead initially while seven were rescued.

A total of 11 bodies were recovered in waters near the sunken South Korean vessel Oryong 501, the ministry of foreign affairs said, Xinhua reported.

The 1,753-tonnne fishing ship, sank in the western part of the Bering Sea near Russia Monday.

The crew on board the ship included 11 South Koreans, 35 Indonesians, 13 Filipinos and one Russian inspector. Forty two people are still to be accounted for Wednesday.

The 35-year-old vessel is believed to have begun listing after bad weather caused seawater to flood the storage parts of it.

The ship left the country's southern port city of Busan July 10 for the Bering Sea to catch pollack.
