Actress Jaya Binju, currently seen in the small screen show "Krishndasi", says women form the maximum audience for TV soaps, but that's not the reason why most content in the industry is women-dominated.
Asked if she feels that small screen shows are mostly led by women characters, Jaya told IANS: "Yes it is, because our audience is primarily women. Nevertheless, I don't think women in India or globally are so narrow minded that they can't digest a variety of subjects."
The actress, whose track in channel Colors's show is nearing an end, says the "problem is not the women audience, but the mad race of Television Rating Points (TRP) that makes the makers insecure about trying something new".
Asked if content makers for TV should take up more relevant topics, she said: "According to me, it's not just about how TV or any medium of entertainment should always focus on relevant and meaningful subjects. Even a saas-bahu saga can be interesting if it doesn't succumb to the cliche patterns of television."
What does she plan to do now since her track in "Krishndasi" -- which tells an untold story of the devadasi community -- is ending?
"I always believe in going with the flow. Currently I am on the look out for projects that will come my way. But as always, the potential of the role and the people involved would be my first priority," she added.
