Two Gurgaon policemen suspended for extortion

Two policemen were Sunday suspended for wrongful confinement of two people and extorting Rs.45,000 from them, police said.

Munshi Head Constable Naresh Kumar and constable Surender Singh, posted at Badshahpur police station, were suspended after an inquiry by a senior police officer found they extorted money from Riyazuddin, a scrap dealer.

"Surender Singh stopped a truck full of scrap June 20 and took it to the police station. Though the papers of the truck were in order, the driver was forced to stay at the police station for several hours," police officer Erjun Singh told IANS.

Riyazuddin, the truck's owner and a scrap dealer, was called to the police station and also forced to stay there for long.

"They were allowed to leave the police station only after handing over Rs.45,000 to the accused policemen," he said.

The victims Saturday gave a written complaint to Commissioner of Police Alok Mittal, who ordered an inquiry into the matter.

The accused have been booked on charges of corruption, wrongful confinement and extortion, the police officer said.

The accused are absconding, but police said they will be arrested soon.
