Two top militants belonging to the newly floated Karbi Land Protection Force (KLPF) were arrested from Assam Monday, police said.
KLPF chairman Dhuniram Teron, 25 and general secretary Manoj Teron, 30, were arrested during a joint operation by police, army and CRPF from Hidipi forest in Karbi Anglong district.
A huge cache of arms and ammunition, incliding two AK-56 rifles, 10 magazines of AK-56 rifles, 255 live rounds of AK-56 rifles, one 7.65mm pistol, were seized from their possession, police said.
Police said the KLPF was formed by former members of the United Peoples Democratic Solidarity (UPDS) - a Karbi militant outfit that has entered into a truce with the central government a few years back.
The newly floated group has been involved in extortion, kidnapping and other subversive activities, police said.
