Vietnam announced Saturday that it will hold state funeral for legendary general General Vo Nguyen Giap, who died Friday at the age of 103.
The state funeral of General Giap, who was also a former history teacher and journalist, will be held from Oct 11 to 13, reported Xinhua citing the announcement released by the Office of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee.
"Vo Nguyen Giap, the brilliant and ruthless self-taught general who forced French colonialists and American imperialists away from Vietnam, died at the age of 103" in Hanoi Friday, a government-run online daily said.
As the first general of the Vietnam People's Army, Giap played a key command role in the Indo-China War against the French (1946-1954) and the US (1960-1975), the daily said.
