Dilemma for those over 58

The Haryana government's recent move to bring down the retirement age of its officials to 58 years from 60, has set the proverbial cat among the central government officers too. Many public sector undertaking officials, who are close to 58, are worriedly discussing retirement plans as straws in the wind suggest that the Narendra Modi government would plan a similar move ahead of the next Pay Commission to infuse new blood into the public sector. The condition of those between 58 and 60 is worse. The day of such notification could well be their last day in service. "We seem to be on borrowed time at present," one of them quipped.
