Soon after US President Barack Obama finished his first speech in Mumbai, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy, who was closely following him on TV, addressed a press conference criticising the US president for not being vocal enough about blaming Pakistan for the Mumbai attacks. Just as the press conference ended, he got a call from senior leader Arun Jaitley asking him to tone down his criticism and wait for Obama’s visit to end before raising any concerns. Unable to gauge the damage already done because some parts of the press conference were instantly aired, Rudy individually called both Hindi and English news channels and gave them a separate byte that was less critical.
