Put Mamata on notice, vote for BJP: Modi

Says he'll bring change to Bengal if voted to power

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday kick-started its campaign in West Bengal for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

 

Addressing a mammoth rally at Brigade ground in Kolkata, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said that the so-called Third Front parties must recognise that there was a wave blowing in favour of the BJP.

 

He went on add that those talking about Third Front should see where the wind is blowing.

 

"Bengal has a special relationship with Gujarat. I have never seen such a huge rally in Kolkata. West Bengal played a vital role in development of Gujarat's textile industry. Rabindranath Tagore's brother had a big role in the development of Ahmedabad," he said.

 

"Bengal must play the role of Rashtra Guru. We must built India of Swami Vivekananda's vision. India can be a world leader only in Bengal progresses," he added. 

Trying to strike a chord with the people of Bengal, he accused the Congress of denying Pranab Mukherjee, now President, the prime minister's post in 2004 even though he "deserved" the chair. 

 

Coming down heavily on Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Modi said that the change has not happened in the state. 

 

The BJP leader asked West Bengal to put their Chief Minister on notice and vote for the BJP. 

 

The Hindutva icon said: "You voted for 'poribartan' change, but has that happened?. Vote for Mamata and you will waste your time"    

He said: "The next BJP government at the Centre will work for the development of West Bengal"

 

Ahead of the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls, the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate said that all political pundits would be proven wrong.

He said that after Independence this was the first election which was not being fought by any party but the common people.
