Hindustan Colas Limited, a joint venture company promoted by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and Colas S.A. of France, today introduced their new product – an instant mix for repairing potholes quickly and conveniently.

“ROADBOND”, as this product is branded, will be useful in repairing not only potholes but also other types of damages to roads, including the trenches dug by various utility companies across city roads.

Potholes on the Indian roads have been a bane for the vehicle owners and pedestrians alike. Every year, a large number of vehicles get damaged due to bad roads and accidents due to potholes are not uncommon. Millions of rupees are spent by the road construction agencies year after year but the problem has so far refused to go away. While ever increasing traffic load and adverse weather conditions are largely responsible for the appearance of potholes on our roads, it is the manner in which they are repaired that can do with improvement. Conventional methods of repair, like the use of ‘hot-asphalt’ or ‘cutbacks’ have their limitations and this is where ROADBOND steps in to provide an easy-to-use solution. ROADBOND is produced using carefully selected raw materials and a special bitumen emulsion developed by Hindustan Colas Limited. At the site where repairs are required, ROADBOND can be directly filled into the potholes from the bag and compacted using a roller or even a ‘hand-rammer’. The pothole will become strong enough in as less as 30 minutes and the particular stretch of road can then be opened for traffic immediately thereafter. ROADBOND thus provides an almost instantaneous, convenient and environment friendly solution for pothole repairs. Especially in urban areas, where the time available for pothole repairs is extremely limited, ROADBOND would be a great help to the road maintenance agencies.

ROADBOND has been field-tested in different parts of the country including at the IIT, Chennai and has shown very good results. Presently, ROADBOND will be made available in 25 Kg bags, though Hindustan Colas Limited will be evaluating the need to introduce different pack sizes basis market response.
