11 pro-Tamil outfit members arrested

Eleven members of a pro-Tamil outfit were today arrested here for allegedly trying to burn the effigy of Congress President Sonia Gandhi protesting her party's opposition to the release of seven convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.
Shouting slogans against Sonia, the workers, led by Tanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhakam General Secretary, K Ramakrishnan, tried to burn her effigy but police managed to snatch it and extinguished the blaze.
They were opposing the stand of Congress on the release and also the stay by Supreme Court today on the issue, police said.
