In the wake of Uttar Pradesh hooch tragedy, police and excise department have arrested twelve persons in the raids conducted at several places selling spurious liquor.
Police destroyed several litres of spurious liquor found yesterday and the material used to produce it, Assistant Commissioner Bhagwan Singh Verma of excise department said.
Around 1400 and 300 litres of spurious liquor was seized from Arding area in Govardhan and Bhatu colonies respectively. Six places that produced hooch were also destroyed, Verma said.
Raids were also conducted in areas Shergad, Surir and Nauzil, he said.
According to him, labourers working in brick kilns here used to consume this liquor.
Also, an illegal place selling spurious liquor in Rawal village has been shut down. It is believed that liquor has been smuggled in the district from Rajasthan and Haryana as the prices are less in those states, he said.
