13 lakh bikers challaned for triple-riding, not wearing helmet in Delhi

Two-wheeler riders have emerged as the biggest traffic rule violators in the national capital with a whopping 13 lakhs being challaned in 2016 for triple-riding and not wearing helmet.
The annual report of Delhi Police shows that as many as 8,88,913 two-wheeler riders were challaned for not wearing helmets last year.
The number of challans issued for pillion riders not wearing helmets stood at 3,96,110, while 1,02,352 challans were issued for triple-riding.
"Enforcement of discipline on the road users through prosecution of major traffic violations has been attempted by the Traffic Police with emphasis on the prosecution against over-speeding, reckless driving, minor driving, drunken driving, jumping red light, etc.," the report said.
As many as 92,037 persons, both bikers and motorists, were issued challans for jumping red light in 2016, while 2,05,470 were challaned for dangerous driving.
Traffic policemen issued 6,76,301 challans for improper parking.
A total of 86,771 violators were issued challans last year for over-speeding and 2,31,813 motorists were challaned for driving without seat belt.
Challans were issued to 4,930 motorists for driving vehicles while using mobile phones and 28,006 challans were issued for drunken driving.
