At least 14 people are affected of diarrhoea in the tribal dominated Kutibari village under Bilabadi gram panchayat, officials said.
Villagers said the disease is spreading to other two neighbouring areas creating panic among the tribal population.
Four patients were referred to Phulbani district headquarters hospital where their condition is stated to be stable.
A health team from the district headquarters yesterday had rushed to the affected village and suggested preventive measures. All water bodies in the affected areas are being disinfected and preventive doses administrated to at least 300 villagers, officials said.
"The situation is under control. Frequent consumption of contaminated water from unhygienic water bodies in absence of a tubewell in Kutibari village could be be the cause behind the disease," Dr Swapneswar Gadanayak, CDMO, Kandhamal told reporters here.
