At least 14 towns and cities of the state today recorded temperature above 40 degree Celsius with Sonepur in the western region recording the maximum temperature of 43.2 degree C in the state today.
Bhubaneswar today recorded 41.4 degree C against yesterday's 43.2 degree.
The places which recorded above 40 degree C included Bhawanipatna (42.7), Malkangiri (42.4), Titlagarh (42.3), Angul (42.1) and Bolangir (42).
The temperature soared upto 40 degrees celsius and above in Hirakud and Talcher (41.6 each), Chandbali (41.2), Jharsuguda (41.1), Sambalpur (41.5) and Dhenkanal (41.2).
"The alarming rise in temperature in coastal Odisha is due to the flow of hot wind from the central and north-west India towards the state," said Sarat Chandra Sahu, Director, Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar.
