According to Circle Inspector of Bommuru police station P Kanaka Rao the mishap occurred in the wee hours when a group of devotees including women were on their way to Kanaka Durgamatha temple in Vijaywada from Srikakulam district.
When the van reached Diwanchervu in East Godavari district, the driver lost control and hit a lorry parked on the roadside killing two persons on the spot and leaving one teenaged girl seriously injured.
Nine injured have been admitted to Government General Hospital here, while the girl has been shifted to Kakinanda government hospital.
Police have detained the van driver. Further probe is on.
