Seven people have lost their lives in cold-related incidents since last night in different parts of Uttar Pradesh where the mercury dipped by a few notches.
Reports said that three farmers lost their lives in Banda last night while guarding their crop in the fields and four people died in a road accident because of heavy fog in Lucknow.
The MeT office said that there had been a dip in temperature because of snowfall in higher reaches of Uttarakhand though there are chances of it subsiding in a couple of days.
The weather has been dry over the state and dense to moderate fog occurred at isolated places.
Night temperature markedly fell in Allahabad division, appreciably fell in Kanpur and Bareilly and fell in Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Faizabad and Lucknow divisions.
Muzaffarnagar with 7.4 degrees Celsius was the coldest place in the state, it said, forecasting that dense fog is very likely at isolated places over the state.
Ramphal (55) in Rampur village under Jaspura tehsil, Devi Dayal (70) in Gauritala village under Marka police station area and Ram Kripal (65) in Bhitaura village under Tindwari police station area had gone to their fields to guard and irrigate their crop last night when they died, police said.
Banda District Magistrate Saroj Kumar said the bodies have been sent for post-mortem and the families of victims would be extended ex-gratia as per the rules after getting the report.
In a separate incident, four persons including three women travelling in a tempo were killed in Gosainganj police station area in Lucknow this morning, police said.
The tempo collided with a tanker due to poor visibility because of heavy fog, police said, adding that details of the deceased were being established.
