The incident occurred when the vehicle heading towards Hetauda from Sarlahi district in southern Nepal fell off the road at Churiyamai village in Makwanpur district, according to a police officer.
Preliminary investigation of the accident revealed that the truck was being driven by the assistant of the driver and he lost control over the steering on an uphill road.
Six of the deceased have been identified as Siyaram Mahato, Jhagu Mahato, Jeet Paswan, Rambali Majhi, Bisesh Yadav and Jangilal Mahato. All of them were residents of Sarlahi district.
Three of the injured are said to be in critical condition and have been referred to Bharatpur Hospital.
