"Decision of the Government of India to demonetise the currency (Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes) across the nation has led to currency hardships for airport users and air travellers," AAI said in a release.
"Hence, extending its support to the campaign and facilitating airport users and air travellers, AAI has decided to allow any scheduled commercial bank to open and operate (on temporary basis) currency exchange counter (small)."
Earlier this week, the government waived parking fee at airports till the mid-night of November 21. This is applicable on both AAI as well as privately operated airports.

A ministry official said the arrangement would not be there at airports run under joint ventures. In these cities, there are already sufficient bank branches and exchange counters, the official added.
