AAP leader moves HC against trial court summoning order

Aam Aadmi Party leader Raghav Chaddha today moved the Delhi High Court seeking quashing of a trial court order summoning him as an accused in a criminal defamation plea filed by union minister Arun Jaitley.
The matter came up for hearing before Justice Sangita Dhingra Sehgal, who did not issue notice to the senior BJP leader and posted the plea for further hearing on October 30.
Chaddha has moved the high court against a trial court's January 30 order summoning him as an accused in the case.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and four other AAP leaders have also been summoned in the matter. All the accused have been given bail in the case.

Recently the trial court framed charges against Kejriwal and five other AAP leaders in the case after they pleaded not guilty. All of them sought trial in the case.
Jaitley has filed a defamation case against Kejriwal and AAP leaders Kumar Vishwas, Ashutosh, Sanjay Singh, Chadha and Deepak Bajpayee, alleging that they made "false and defamatory" statements in a case involving the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), thereby harming his reputation.
Jaitley filed the criminal defamation complaint alleging that the accused had defamed him in a controversy regarding the DDCA when he headed it for over a decade.
The BJP leader has also filed a civil defamation suit before the Delhi High Court and sought compensation of Rs 10 crore from Kejriwal and others for allegedly issuing false and defamatory statements against him and his family in connection with alleged financial irregularities in the DDCA while he was its president between 2000 and 2013. The charges have already been denied by the minister.
