ABVP sees Congress conspiracy, will to go court

A day after their candidates lost out to Congress's student wing NSUI in the University election, leading to much ruckus at the campus, ABVP said it wants an independent probe into the way the results and the ensuing protests were handled.

ABVP's state secretary Rohit Chahal today alleged that the University's chief election officer Prof C S Dubey was a "Congressman" and the ruling party had "abused money and power to turn the election in its favour".

Some of the ABVP activists who were protesting the results yesterday were injured after the police crackdown on them.

Alleging high-handedness, Chahal said that the varsity's private security guards were the first to charge at the students, following which the Delhi Police joined in, leading to injuries to some.

Chahal said ABVP will submit a petition in Delhi High Court tomorrow seeking a probe into all their allegations.

"This was the first time that media persons and candidates were not allowed inside the counting stations, and even candidates were not allowed near voting machines during counting. This is violation of Lyngdoh committee recommendations," he said.

In a near clean sweep, NSUI's candidates won the top three posts on the DUSU panel, while the fourth post was tied between the candidates of NSUI and ABVP. But the ABVP has refused to accept the results, insisting there were irregularities and manipulations.

ABVP will also "impose a bandh" on the University campus tomorrow and will try to prevent classes from being held in protest, the BJP's student wing said.
